Our Retreat is magnificently positioned on a mountain plateau overlooking the Umzimkulu River and lush farmlands. Being owner-run ensures you a very warm welcome, wonderful hospitality and an enjoyable holiday. Accommodation All cottages are fully equipped for self-catering with stove, microwave, fridge, crockery, cutlery and bedding. Each has a private braai (barbecue) area.
Optional Breakfast: A hearty country or continental breakfast is served – the perfect way to start an eventful day in the Drakensberg.
Jackal Buzzard cottage
Jackal Buzzard cottage has a small bedroom downstairs with a double bed and electric blanket in winter. Fairly steep steps (not for the infirm) lead to a large bedroom upstairs which also has a double bed, electric blanket in winter and a lovely view. Downstairs there is a full bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and basin. The living room has a Jetmaster log fireplace and is open plan into a small breakfast nook cum dining area and well equipped custom built kitchen with gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. The door opens up onto a covered patio. There is a portable braai. Sparrowhawk cottageSparrowhawk cottage is a 3 bedroom log and block chalet. The main bedroom has a double bed with electric blanket in winter and a bathroom ensuite which consists of bath, basin and toilet. The other 2 bedrooms have 2 single beds in each and there is another small bathroom with a shower,loo and wash hand basin. There is a well equipped kitchen with gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. The large living area has a log fireplace and dining-room area. Double doors open up onto a covered patio with views across the valley and down to the trout dams. There is also a braai area.
Lammergeier Lammergeier is a beautiful hand crafted log cabin with magnificent 360 degree views. Downstairs there are 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and electric blanket in winter and the other with 2 single beds. There is one full bathroom with a bath, shower, basin and toilet and another separate toilet with hand basin. The large living area cum dining-room area and has a log fireplace and is open plan into the well equipped kitchen consisting of gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. Double doors open up onto a wooden deck and a single door opens up onto a covered deck. Upstairs there is a large open plan loft with 6 single beds and above this is another small loft with 2 mattresses on the floor for which we do not supply linen. There is also a braai area. Falcon is a cosy cottage consisting of a large open plan room with a double-bed (plus electric blanket) and sleeper couch for a child. It has an en-suite bathroom which consists of bath, shower, basin and toilet. There are two easy chairs facing a large window through which one can see “forever”. A log fire will keep you warm during the cold winter nights. The custom built kitchen is fully equipped with gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. A side door opens onto a covered patio and braai area, with magnificent views.
Eagle Owl EAGLE OWL – PLEASE NOTE THAT EAGLET 01 & 02 TOGETHER MAKE UP EAGLE OWL (THE COTTAGES ARE INTER-LEADING)
This our “flagship” chalet has 5 bedrooms, the main with an en-suite bathroom, double bed & a single bed. The second bedroom has a double bunk bed and a single bed. The first sitting room has got one single bed and a sleeper couch (FOR WHICH WE DO NOT SUPPLY LINEN). The third bedroom has a double bed and the fourth bedroom has 2 single beds. All but the bunk beds have electric blankets. There is a second bathroom with a shower, basin and loo. The large living area, dining-room and kitchen have an anthracite / log fireplace as well as a single bed. Double doors open onto a large patio with a braai area. The views are magnificent. The two kitchen’s are well equipped, Kitchen one with a gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery and Kitchen two with an electric stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery.
EAGLET 01 - Consists of 1 x Bedroom with a double bed and a single bed with a bathroom en - suite. A 2nd bedroom consists of a bunk bed and a single bed. All the beds have electric blankets except for the bunk bed. The living area has got a GAS HEATER FOR HIRE for those chilly winter evenings, with a sleeper couch (FOR WHICH WE DO NOT SUPPLY LINEN) and one single bed. The barbecue area is on a grassy knoll just outside the kitchen. The views from the sitting room and double bed room are magnificent. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery.
EAGLET 02 - Consists of 1 x Bedroom with a double bed and a 2nd bedroom with 2 single beds. All the beds have electric blankets. The large living area and dining-room has a anthracite / log fireplace and a single bed. Double doors open onto a large patio with a braai area. The views are magnificent. The kitchen is well equipped with a stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. Kestrel Kestrel is a cosy Harvey thatched one bedroom cottage with double bed (plus electric blanket). The ensuite bathroom consists of bath, shower toilet and basin.
The large living area has a custom built kitchen (well equipped with gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery) with breakfast nook at one end - easy chairs, a single bed and log fireplace at the other.
